Events – the good the bad and the frankly ridiculous!

We absolutely love organising events. Indeed our MD Sarah’s first ever role was organising PR events for Bourjois cosmetics, before moving on to organising weddings and celebrity interviews in hotels across London.

Since the start of Golden Frog, we have been involved both in the complete creation of events, to performing tasks within events organised by others.

In 2016 we had our most complicated event to date, the 125th Anniversary of Samuel Grant Packaging. As a family company, the event had to offer something for everyone, and the outcome of this was in fact two separate events at the same venue. Held at the Pavilions in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, staff were encouraged to bring their whole families. There were bouncy castles and slides for the children, as well as a children’s entertainer and magician. There were coconut shies, darts games, whack-a-mole and an inter-warehouse football match which were enjoyed by staff and their families alike, as well as manicures and massages on offer. Guests even enjoyed a barbecue and a visit from an ice cream van to finish the afternoon.

Following a swift change at the Harrogate hotel at which most of the staff were staying, the black-tie evening event kicked off. Guests (no children this time) were treated to a delicious three course meal and drinks, followed by a disco, bucking bronco, and casino tables, all commemorated by the addition of a branded photobooth and a presentation of branded gifts.

We organised the lot over six months, and with two events, 260 guests at various points, accommodation and transport to think about, we certainly had our work cut out!

Our most glamorous event was certainly our 2014 London Fashion Week event held at London’s prestigious members’ club, Whisky Mist. Held to launch fledgling handbag designer Juben, as well as raise the profile of Kate Fearnley’s evening wear collection, our guest list of fashion journalists and bloggers were treated to cocktails and champagne, as well as press packs and goody bags which resulted in some fantastic coverage for our brands. Not only that, we had arranged to get most of the cost covered by the venue themselves in return for the coverage they received, so it was most definitely a win-win (and a lot of air kissing!).

It’s always lovely to be recognised for the work we do, although often we are in the background ensuring that it all runs smoothly. This tradition was broken when we organised the album launch party at Hammersmith Apollo for our lovely musician Jonathan Whiskerd, who thanked us publicly on stage and dedicated his title track to us. A few red faces and damp cheeks ensued!

We’re just as comfortable as a company in the confines of Yorkshire SMEs though, and whilst the glamour of London PR is appealing on face value, we are much happier getting our hands dirty and organising press launches of new warehouses, and supporting manufacturers as they go to events to receive awards. We regularly support Harrogate Digital in both the promotion and running of their networking events, and love to be invited to watch our clients receive awards that we have entered them for.
